Position Summary
Hidden Path Entertainment is seeking a Principal Gameplay Programmer for a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will take place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise using Unreal Engine 5.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience leading gameplay programmers, have the ability to work closely with designers to prototype fun experiences, and be able to work across teams when features span multiple areas of the game. This role reports to the studio’s Director of Technology.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of gameplay programmers
- Work closely with other discipline leads to guide development of gameplay systems and features, and communicate with other lead programmers when features span multiple areas
- Scope, prioritize, and delegate tasks
- Be able to represent your team and communicate the state of their tasks to the production team
- Contribute by prototyping and creating gameplay features
- Create and maintain technical design documents
- Be a resource to others for information about gameplay systems
- Assist with bug fixing and polish
Requirements:
- 6+ years in the game industry with at least one shipped title
- Led a team of programmers on at least one shipped title
- Passion for games and ability to think critically about gameplay
- Excellent knowledge of C++
- Excellent coding design skills
- Excellent debugging skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Enjoy problem solving and iterating
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate across disciplines, explaining options and trade-offs
Nice to Have:
- B.S. in computer science or computer engineering
- (Strongly Preferred) Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5 and blueprints
- Experience with Unreal Engine’s Gameplay Ability System
- Good working knowledge of linear algebra and algorithms
- Experience working with a console
- Interest in RPGs and/or action games
