Position Summary
Hidden Path Entertainment is seeking a Character Customization Technical Director for a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will take place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise using Unreal Engine 5.
As Character Customization Technical Director, you will be responsible for driving the character customization for the game.
You will be collaborating with artists, designers, and programmers to architect and develop character customization standards, customization, pipelines, and processes. You will leverage UE5, MetaHuman, and MetaHuman standards to help develop the infrastructure that will be used to create a wide variety of customizable characters for both players and NPCs.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and champion the character customization framework, pipelines, and processes
- Work with designers, engineers, and artists to establish best practices, standards, and framework for a character creation pipeline
- Develop layering and/or RBF techniques that enable the sharing, mix, matching, and customization of clothing and armor
- Develop best practices and standards for facial and hair customization
- Develop best practices and standards for body customization
- Develop best practices and standards for outsourcing partners
- Develop the framework for an NPC creation system for creating a wide variety of NPCs
- Collaborate with external partners in the creation of NPC assets
- Collaborate on performance and optimization for character assets
Requirements:
- Shipped at least one AAA title as a in a Technical Character Artist role
- Familiar with rigging best practices
- Familiar with UE5 blueprint creation or equivalent scripting experience
- Familiar with character pipelines
- Ability to edit/adapt materials and shaders for specific purposes
- Comfortable with Maya
- Comfortable with Substance Designer
Nice to Have:
- Marvelous Designer Experience
- Familiarity with Zbrush and Mudbox
- Programming experience
- Previous RPG experience
